GMTA Summer Team Tennis has been a part of junior tennis since the 1970’s and caters to players in the Madison area. This program has been an integral stepping stone for young players in their competitive tennis skill development. For example, the reigning WIAA Division 1 State Champion and current freshman on the Brandeis University Tennis Team, Colt Tegtmeier (pictured below), started his competitive tennis in GMTA Summer Team Tennis (STT).
GMTA STT is again partnering with the USTA to strengthen the program and provide extended competition opportunities for its participants. "A FREE USTA account # is required: go to: www.netgeneration.usta.com; click "Join" (FREE); Complete registration information and submit. Players wishing to advance to the USTA/Wisconsin District Junior Team Tennis Championships in the Non-Progressive division will be placed on a team to compete at Nielsen Tennis Stadium in July.
Summer Team Tennis is a seven week program designed for boys and girls, 18 years of age and younger. This is a competitive program only. Players must be able to serve, rally, and keep score. Individuals are matched up with opponents by ability/experience level for the best competitive play possible.
The program begins Wednesday and Thursday, June 12-13. Sessions meet on Tuesdays and Thursdays, except for the first and last week of the schedule. We will attempt to make up all rainouts. The end of season tournament will take place July 23-25. Transportation to away matches is provided by players or parents. Please be aware... some sites do not have readily available water sources, so players are responsible for bringing their own container filled with water.
